Snow Hill shops worth the trip
Editor,
When a visitor comes to Snow Hill and asks, “What shops are in downtown Snow Hill?” let me help you with your response [and], in an upbeat, positive way, tell them about these places.
The Serenity Shoppe: a great place for organic and locally made gifts, jewelry and body products.
The Flower Shop in Snow Hill: of course flowers, but also candles and gifts.
Vintage Pink Quilt Studio: quilter’s studio and supplies.
The Corner Shoppe: flavor-infused oils and vinegars, spices, rubs, candies and more.
Jerry’s Wood Craft: handcrafted woodworking [and] unique gifts.
The Sassy Girl Boutique: gifts, jewelry and home decor.
Bishop’s Stock Fine Art, Craft & Wine: art, wine and live decoy carving.
A Diamond On Pearl: original artwork and gifts from local artists.
The Green Pearl: art from a local artist.
You can also add we have a great antique store, Pocomoke River Canoe Company, on the river, and the Julia A. Purnell Museum in walking distance to town.
And don’t forget we have three great bed and breakfasts: The River House Inn, Chanceford Hall and the Cedars.
You might also add, we have two new businesses opening up soon: Olde Town Candy Company, and Toy Town Antiques.
And, if they ask where to eat downtown, you may suggest Harvest Moon Tavern, The Daily Brew Coffeehouse, or Blue Dog Snow Hill.
It would be nice to hear all [the] locals having something positive to say about the town they live in instead of pointing out the past difficulties and struggles that downtown has faced.
As a business owner of 13 years now, I whole-heartedly appreciate the support I receive from locals. Your impact on my survival is beneficial to not just me, but all of Snow Hill. For that, I thank you.
I know most of you want to see our town come back to life again, to offer more amenities, and to see us already here, thrive. It will happen folks … stay tuned. Until then, keep the positive chatter going about Snow Hill and be part of the change.

Kicks for Kids event successful
Editor,
Coastal Hospice sincerely thanks everyone who made this year’s Kicks for Kids fundraising event on Oct. 22 a big success. The event raised more than $5,000 to fund Coastal Kids Supportive Care, the pediatric program of Coastal Hospice & Palliative Care.
Eight enthusiastic kickball teams braved the chilly weather and brisk wind, with the “Recess Studs,” a family team headed by David Capobianco, taking home the winner’s trophy. Everyone on the field played hard and contributed to the day’s success.
We wouldn’t have attempted this event without generous volunteer and business support. We’re grateful to Sophia Smecker of the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce for chairing a committee that included Jenna Bowne, Kathleen Abercrombie, Mike Birely and Sarah Mahmoud; to Blair Carey for organizing the matches; to the members of Salisbury University’s Girls on Top of the World for volunteering in a number of roles; to Goose Creek, Southbound Lanes, Olympia Fitness, Uptown Cheapskate and Sub Runners for the gift card prizes; and to EtchArt for the trophies.
We’re also grateful to SVN-Miller Commercial Real Estate for the use of their field.
The needs of our pediatric patients and their families are unique, and often fall outside of the normal hospice benefit and reimbursement. Thanks to this generous community, we can afford to deliver on our promise to put our patients’ needs and goals first in all we do.
