Slow down and just pay attention
Editor:
As a resident of Ocean Pines who lives on a side street — in the past two weeks there have been four preventable driving-related fatalities in my neighborhood.
Two squirrels, a young rabbit and today a large red-headed woodpecker have crossed paths with residents driving at excessive speeds. The echo of the woodpecker‘s tapping had been heard up in the pine trees since early May. The woods are now silent.
Wildlife co-exists with us. They don’t deserve to die because drivers are looking at their cell phones or rushing to get a Big Mac for lunch. These needless victims could easily have been dogs, cats, or even small children.
Message to speeders: Slow down and watch where you’re going. You don’t own the streets; you share them with other living things. And McDonald’s has plenty of Big Macs so there’s no need to speed.
