Letter To The Editor: Crab feast offers candidates

Crab feast offers candidates

Editor,

In Australia, voting is compulsory, and eligible citizens who fail to vote without a valid reason may receive a modest administrative penalty equivalent to $20 or more. In the United States, voting is voluntary, and there are no penalties for choosing not to vote. Even so, voting is both a fundamental right and an important civic responsibility. Every eligible citizen should register to vote, learn about the candidates and issues on the ballot, and make their voice heard at the polls.

Worcester County Democrats are holding a Crab Feast July 19 at noon at the White Horse Park in Ocean Pines. This presents a wonderful opportunity for Worcester County voters to chat with and learn more about the following candidates seeking office.

Dan Schwartz – Democratic candidate for Maryland’s 1st Congressional District. Schwartz has emphasized protecting democracy, expanding access to affordable health care, supporting public education, and defending Social Security and Medicare in his campaign against incumbent Andy Harris.

Lino Cressotti – Democratic candidate for the Maryland State Senate in District 38, is running to give Eastern Shore residents a stronger voice in Annapolis, with a focus on supporting working families, strengthening public education, expanding access to affordable health care, and promoting economic opportunities while protecting the region’s agricultural and coastal communities.

Roxie Dennis – Democratic candidate for Worcester County Commissioner, District 2. Dennis is a longtime community advocate who has focused her campaign on government transparency, responsible growth, environmental stewardship, and ensuring county government serves all residents.

Vicky Wallace – Democratic candidate for Worcester County Commissioner, District 5. Wallace is campaigning on fiscal responsibility, protecting the county’s natural resources, supporting public safety, and encouraging balanced economic development.

Martin Radinsky – Democratic candidate for Worcester County Orphans’ Court. Radinsky is seeking to bring fairness, integrity, and careful attention to the court’s responsibilities in handling probate and estate matters.

Shelley Johnson – Democratic candidate for Maryland House of Delegates, District 38A. Johnson, a Princess Anne town commissioner, has emphasized improving education, strengthening health care access, supporting working families, and creating economic opportunities on the Lower Eastern Shore.

Kathy Cater – Democratic candidate for Worcester County Board of Education. Cator is focused on supporting students and teachers, maintaining high academic standards, promoting transparency, and ensuring responsible stewardship of school resources.
